Extenuating Circumstances

Modified on Mon, 22 Aug 2022 at 01:59 PM

If you require mitigation for any reason, please contact the Student Services via email or telephone, and they will be happy to assist you going forward with your application, and also discuss the most appropriate form of mitigation based on your circumstances.

University of Gibraltar advise that students are also entitled to make applications under the Mitigating Circumstances procedures where additional short term assistance is required over and above any individualised support agreed as a reasonable adjustment. This may occur for example where:

a student with an ongoing medical or mental health condition experiences a change in their

condition, which might be short term, such as:

(a) an acute episode or crisis

(b) a serious worsening of their condition

(c) a mental health problem which may fluctuate unpredictably

(d) an acute flare-up of a mental health or medical condition due to increased examination

stress

(e) a new condition.

Extensions

If you find yourself in the position of being unable to meet a deadline you should contact Student Services as soon as possible, and will advise you and help you apply for an extension due to extenuating circumstances. Note there are strict criteria for these applications - it is insufficient, for example, to cite ‘being busy’, or ‘I just ran out of time’. If, for any reason, you require an extension on submitting an assignment, please contact the Student Services team via email or telephone and they will both discuss your concerns and help you go forward with the most appropriate form of mitigation via the university’s Mitigation Panel.

Interruption of Studies

As with extensions, please contact Student Services if you are considering suspending your studies, and the team will assist you in applying and go through the logistics of returning to the programme at the next available opportunity.

Withdrawals

If you are considering withdrawing from the programme, you must contact Student Services as soon as possible. There are mandatory formalities to go through in order to withdraw and Student Services will be able to guide you through the process.
