If unforeseen personal circumstances prevent you from meeting the original deadline, please contact Student Services directly. This helps us provide the right support and keep your tutor informed.
Eligibility criteria will apply, per USW's Regulations and Procedures. Extensions are given on the grounds of unforeseen and unpreventable extenuating circumstances, where the University of South Wales defines this as:
“Exceptional circumstances that are unforeseen, unavoidable and outside the control of the student and which have prevented, or will prevent, them from performing in assessment at the level expected or required of them.”
Pursuing an Extension
Following initial contact and review of what options remain available, you must inform Student Services which extension and components you want to apply for. Our teams will then extend the relevant portal(s) on Moodle whilst you wait for an official outcome from the university.
The application for an extension will need to be made through USW’s Advice Zone; step-by-step guidance, specific to which extension you would be applying for, will be given through your email correspondence with Student Services.
For some further information on USW’s regulations and procedures on extenuating circumstances, please navigate to the “University Regulations” section of your Student Handbook. You can find this by finding your course through the “Get Set for Success” page, accessible on the top bar in Moodle.
Some important things to note:
- Learna does not approve extension applications. This application is made with USW and reviewed by their dedicated panel.
- Students must complete their enrolment with the university to be eligible to apply for these procedures.
- Take care to select the correct option of extenuating circumstances that you are hoping to apply for, to avoid any confusion when it comes to the panel.
- It is essential to have consistent communication with USW during the process of your extenuating circumstances application; otherwise, it may not be successful or confirmed.
- Your results will be held pending confirmation of your application. Further, having an extension means that anyone marking your work will also have an extension to mark appropriately.
